(Dated: 31 Jul 2020)

Dear Parent, "The child is endowed with unknown powers, which can guide us to a radiant future. If what we really want is a new world, then education must take as its aim the development of these hidden possibilities." – Dr. Maria Montessori (The Absorbent Mind)

The Ardee School has successfully become a Virtual Learning Community. We are truly living our school motto –‘Be the change'.

As the COVID-19 pandemic has developed, we have been compelled to rewrite our regular routines and schedules, set up home offices, work from home, regularly check and monitor temperature, and above all, to practice social distancing. We understand the difficulties that you are experiencing as you try to manage a full-time work schedule and your personal life. Added to that now, is the responsibility of guiding your child's education on the virtual platform. We all are stressed, exhausted, and craving our normal routines.

Montessori Pedagogy reveals that students engage in learning very concretely and then advance to more abstract learning. We are fortunate to have the resources and ability to adapt to the dynamic structure of the Montessori model of pre-primary education as well as we have, however, a responsibility to engage and support active home learning.

Virtual learning is particularly challenging for our pre-primary learners. We cannot replicate their Montessori learning experiences with the didactic apparatus. However, we are planning, designing, and adjusting our instructional strategy as we observe our student's responses during these virtual lessons.

Our Research and Development team is researching and preparing additional curriculum to keep our students active and engaged. Our curriculum plans will evolve as we learn from the virtual classroom experience. The timetables are tailor-made to accommodate our students learning pace and style.

We are still available as we were at the school gate to provide the guidance and encouragement that comes from personalized interactions. We, too, miss those interactions during the arrival and dispersal time.

You will need to use your discretion regarding what feels right for your child in terms of workload and the balance of active and passive screen time. The hands-on learning experience is a wonderful outlet for children in terms of creativity, stress reduction, and the development of logical and reasoning skills. The Montessori school of thought document will support you and outline a few activities that can be explored to engage students in constructive work.

Our students are experiencing many emotions and miss the structure and socialization that school brings to them. They are experiencing the same feelings that we are and have fewer coping skills than we do. Our primary concern for them is their health, safety, and emotional well-being. We are emphasizing on Peace education and closing circle time to create a strong bond with our students.

We are living through a historical event and are hopeful to emerge out of it soon. We all have concerns for which there are no definitive answers at the moment. We are sincerely grateful for the spirit of The Ardee School students' and parents' community and their ability to work together during such a challenging and trying time.

We look forward to resuming our normal school routine in the near future!
