Ardee school x Project jeans

12-12-2022

Winter has set in, and our winter clothes are out. But… what about the homeless people! They are still out, on the streets, all day and even at night sleeping on the footpaths. They have nothing to protect them from harsh temperature.

To this, a student, Nirvaan Somany, came up with a brilliant idea of recycling used pair of jeans to make sleeping bags. This noble project was named ‘Project Jeans’.

These sleeping bags are distributed to the needy for free of cost. I really appreciate how this honourable cause is not only helping homeless, but also saving our environment. One pair of jeans needs thousands of litre of water to be made, and hence recycling can save a lot of this natural resource. Also, it takes years for one pair of jeans to decompose when thrown away, we can instead put it to a better use. It is giving work to number of people at the same time.

We, the students and the mentors at the Ardee school are pioneers of this drive where we collect used jeans from our friends and family, and neighbourhood give to the ‘Project Jeans’ team for making sleeping bags. In my opinion, we can have coupon booklet given to the students to sell sleeping bags. And that can be given to the needy under that person’s name.

Now, just close your eyes and imagine how a pair of jeans that help you cover your legs is giving warmth to the homeless, and bringing a smile on their faces.

So, we, the future of our country, should take a pledge to always recycle when possible, and save the environment.
